In 2005, Rocket Companies® lost a dear member of its family, Tammy Zionkowski. After a 6-year battle with breast cancer, including a mastectomy and chemotherapy, Tammy passed away. We remember her for finding the good in the hard times.

Who Was Tammy Z.?

Tammy Z. was the Rocket Mortgage® chief financial officer and was a vital part of our company for over 12 years. To us, Tammy was strong, kind and thoughtful.

Even during chemotherapy, Tammy showed her strength, still coming to work on most days. “Cancer has made me a better wife, mother and friend,” she once told her friends. Her good nature in the face of cancer is a continued source of inspiration.

She touched us with her good heart and her determination. In her memory, we decided to start the Tammy Z. Memorial Fund to support cancer research with gifts from family, friends and coworkers.

Dan Said It Best

Rocket Mortgage® Founder and Chairman, Dan Gilbert summed up what Tammy has meant to Rocket Mortgage®, as well as many others:

“There are very few people that are put on this earth who every single person that they touch is better off because that person was born. Our friend and our colleague, Tammy Zionkowski, was one of them.

Tammy was part of our family for over 12 years. She was a huge part of our company’s success. She was smart, hardworking and tough when she needed to be. More importantly, she cared about people.

She taught us many lessons. How to treat others. How to conduct yourself as a human being. How to live your life the right way. She showed us that it’s not the amount of time we have here that’s important, but what we do with the time we have that matters most.

She will always remain in our hearts.”

The Tammy Z. Memorial Golf Outing

We launched the Tammy Z. Memorial Golf Outing after Tammy passed in 2005. With this event, we honor her legacy and continue to donate money to fight cancer.

The Tammy Z. Memorial Golf Outing is now in its 16th year, continuing to raise funds to support cancer research and help those fighting cancer. Last year, our 2-day golf outing raised more than $180,000 and we plan to exceed that this year.

The money raised by this year’s annual golf outing will support cancer research at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Funds will also go to support the Pink Fund, a nonprofit breast cancer organization. The Pink Fund provides 90-day nonmedical cost-of-living assistance to breast cancer patients in active treatment. With this assistance, they can focus on healing, being with their family and returning to work.

We run this event every year in memory of Tammy. We raise these funds in resistance to this dreadful disease, in hopes that they give the gift of life.

This year’s Tammy Z. Memorial Golf Outing will be held at Fox Hills Golf Course in Plymouth, Michigan on August 20-21.

This is just one of many events throughout the year that our team members participate in to help the communities where we live, work and play. If you’d like to work for a company that is founded on a For More Than ProfitSM philosophy, join us!
