Rocket Companies® places value in the personal growth of its team members. Whether it’s connecting them with trainings or mentorships, there are plenty of resources available to those interested in learning and growing.

For any lover of knowledge, one of the greatest resources we offer is our extensive library. The Journey Library features over 75 audiobooks and 265 eBooks, and the list is growing. Like your local public library, team members can check out these books and reserve copies of more popular titles.

Let’s talk about a few of the popular titles we carry.

Fiction: “The Nickel Boys” By Colson Whitehead

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Fiction reveals truth that reality obscures.” One of the fiction titles we have in our library is this Pulitzer prize-winning novel inspired by actual events that occurred at a reform school in Jim Crow-era Florida.

This story chronicles a boy who’s unfairly sentenced to the juvenile reformatory school, the Nickel Academy. At Nickel, he witnesses and experiences horrors steeped in America’s racist history. This brilliant piece of fiction does what all good fiction does: it hits home no matter your background. For those who need it, it shows the hard truths of humanity at its worst; for others, it’s a tale of tenacious survival.

Nonfiction: “The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration” By Isabel Wilkerson

By another Pulitzer-winning writer, Isabel Wilkerson, “The Warmth of Other Suns” covers the great migration of over six million Black Americans that occurred from 1915 – 1970. Wilkerson covers this story through the lens of three Americans: Ida Mae Gladney, George Starling and Robert Foster.

With these three stories, Wilkerson highlights the reasons Black Americans left the South for a chance at prosperity in the North, taking with them many of the traditions and culture that would alter the course of these cities. The risks taken by these three to start over somewhere new came with their own challenges, uncovering a story of immigration that can resonate with many.

Self-Improvement: “Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones” By James Clear

This is a popular one. Better hop on the waitlist now, because you’re going to wait at least a month. Our team members love this audiobook. Why? It’s written by James Clear, one of the world’s leading experts on forming habits. “Atomic Habits” gives you the structure to build habits that help make you better at what you do.

Who doesn’t want that? This book gives you practical tips to develop new habits, build motivation and set yourself up for success. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to lose some weight, envision new products or get your doctorate – this book has advice to help you make the most of your time and effort.

The Bottom Line: Reading Is Where Learning Starts

At Rocket Companies, we want our team members to flex their knowledge, build their skillset and be better all-around human beings. Resources like the Journey Library help make new perspectives and ideas available to our team.

Whether it’s a moving story that increases one’s level of empathy or a set of tips to improve our approach to life, we want to connect with it. We realize the importance of ideas to bring people together, reflect on the past and motivate us for the future.
