Formula For Success

A career in sales can be very rewarding. People often ask me what makes a successful mortgage banker.  The answer is a basic formula I’ve lived by since starting with the company 17 years ago: 

Skill x Effort x Mindset = Success

The great news is that we train on the skills needed to be a successful mortgage banker and we have endless internal resources to ensure you are setup for success. Although we are competitive, your peers will also be pivotal in your development as we work in teams. I believe we create our own outcomes, and Rocket Mortgage® provides a platform and training where folks who want to put in high effort will be rewarded. Lastly, mindset is everything. In sales you will hear “no” quite often and you must have a resilient mentality. We like to think of it as grateful, yet unsatisfied. 

Some traits of successful mortgage bankers are the ability to connect with people, confidence, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to give and receive feedback – just to name a few!

  • Rock Academy: This allows you to pursue your career and degree. You can choose from 200+ education programs including certificates, high school degrees, undergraduate degrees and  graduate degrees.
  • Microlearning: There are self-guided opportunities on various topics.
  • Obvious Choice Program: A 12-week course for mortgage bankers centered around our company’s “Ante to Leadership” philosophy, with a special focus on developing your sales and coaching skill sets. This program includes activities such as instructor led trainings, podcasts, videos and mentoring cohorts.
  • Aspiring Leaders Program: The Aspiring Leaders program is a 3-month commitment that meets on a weekly basis and explores the foundational principles of leadership through a series of online courses, videos, instructor-led trainings and a mentorship pairing. Participants will be paired with a mentor from Rocket Companies®. Mentors and mentees will work together to align on and explore the content to enhance skills and maximize participant potential.
  • Instructor led courses for current leaders: We offer a variety of 1-2 hour courses led by internal team members on various topics many current leaders face to assist in being the best we can for those we lead.
  • Leader to Leader: This 18-month program is for team members who lead leaders. This includes access to an executive coach, 360 surveys, etc. 

We focus on team member development plans which includes experience in learning through doing, education learning through resources and exposure learning through others.

We help clients with home financing needs while developing people, thinking strategically and driving the culture of the company. I am a proud graduate of Michigan State University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in finance. I have worked for Rocket Mortgage® for more than 17 years. I transitioned into leadership 10 years ago, beginning as a Director of Mortgage Banking. Prior to this role, I was a President’s Club Mortgage Banker for 6 years.
