Happy 35th Anniversary, Quicken Loans®! So, What’s In The Secret Sauce?

Quicken Loans is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and it’s an exciting time for all of our team members. From our recent Rocket Companies IPO announcement to years of awards for client service and best place to work, there truly are many reasons to be proud of the dedication to our clients and community. 

But as I reflect on all of those things that are easy to see from the outside, I wanted to provide a glimpse of what it’s like from the inside by sharing five things I’ve observed in my time at Quicken Loans (which is 15 years already!). These are ingredients that I believe not only make us special in the industry but a special place to learn, develop and truly reveal team members’ capabilities, or as I like to call, the secret sauce.

We know that our greatest resource is our team members. Whether you’re a new hire or you’ve been part of our family for decades, you’ll be exposed to many opportunities to use the skills you have in different ways. You might begin in one position and find over time that there’s an area of the company that also suits your abilities and awakens your talents. You might be a part of a special project or product launch because of your expertise. There’s always something new we’re working on and we know our team members can make them happen! We do a phenomenal job of seeing ALL of the skills each individual has and tapping into them to drive success.

As Dan Gilbert often says, “If you aren’t growing, you’re dying.” Whether you look at that from a business perspective or a personal one, having a mindset of growth and improvement can change your outlook. We offer opportunities year-round to sharpen skills, learn new ones and embark in leadership. You won’t hear, “That’s not in our wheelhouse.” Instead, we encourage development, ongoing learning and finding ways to grow our wheelhouse. From our mentorship programs and courses on The Journey to in-person summits and virtual trainings, team members have a variety of ways to grow their career at a pace and style that works for them. Through Rocket Academy, team members can choose from more than 200 education programs to pursue careers and degrees with either full or partial monetary assistance. This desire to always improve is just part of the DNA of our team members.

In business, it’s important to have a vision and understand the big picture. But we also know that many pixels come together to make that picture and those little inches all add up for the final measurement. We make tweaks in real time, we plan for tomorrow’s achievements during today’s successes and we know that everyone’s role is critical to helping our clients achieve their financial goals or realize the dream of homeownership. We know that without each pixel (everyone’s individual contributions) the picture of our company is incomplete.

We’re solution focused – we not only look for ways to simplify or streamline processes for our clients or implement efficiencies for our team members, we seek solutions for challenges that impact our industry, our community and our country. For example, our Government Relations team advocates for clients on housing and mortgage initiatives on both the state and national level. When COVID-19 put strains on local response to the pandemic, our team members sprang into action by setting up testing sites, sourcing face masks and raising funds to provide Internet for families who need to stay connected to work and school. We step up when things get tough and we say with confidence, “We’ll figure it out.”

Just like how behind each loan application is a real person, so too are the team members who make each loan closing possible. We understand what our clients need, want and deserve, because we value honesty, transparency and excellent client service, too. From helping our clients to helping our community, we know that working together makes great things possible. Every year, our team members give countless hours and dollars to nonprofits in the cities where we live, work and play. Internally, we have Team Member Resource Networks that offer a nurturing environment that promotes diversity, inclusion, meaningful conversation and action. We know when we start our workdays, it’s not just a job, it’s so much more. We’re motivated by the daily conversations we have with clients, the important needs of our communities and the belief that our company’s heart and soul is reflected in everything we do.
