At Rocket Companies®, we strongly believe in professional development. We partner with academic institutions to fund extra education for our team members, from certificate programs to graduate degrees.

This extends to our interns. This summer, we partnered with Grand Circus to grow the abilities of our summer interns. These interns were given the opportunity to participate in Grand Circus’ Intro to Front-End Development Workshop. Thirty-eight interns attended this knowledge-building workshop, taking an important step in achieving their career goals.

About Grand Circus

In case you don’t know, Grand Circus is a Michigan-based trainer with campuses in Detroit and Grand Rapids. They are the state’s largest tech-focused learning institution, training the next generation of programmers.

A big focus of Grand Circus is placing its graduates in tech positions across the state using their employer connections. Since 2015, over 1,600 students have graduated their bootcamps, with a graduation rate of 89.1%. Along with Rocket Companies®, big name companies like Ford, GE and DTE Energy hire Grand Circus graduates.

The Value Of The Front-End Development Workshop

Front-end coding is the framework for what you see on your screen, whether browsing a website or using an app. This type of software development uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript code to build the look, feel and functionality of the site or app.

The Front-End Development Workshop is designed to introduce participants to front-end development and prepare them for further education in front-end coding. Anyone considering enrolling in a Front-End Coding Bootcamp with Grand Circus is encouraged to take this course first.

With this coding workshop, our interns were setup for growing their careers. They coded every step of the way alongside a skilled instructor. This instructor showed them how to put HTML, CSS and JavaScript into practice and build a project from the ground up.

Everyone who participated in the workshop left with a finished project. This project is a valuable addition to our intern’s coding portfolio and is an asset they can proudly build on for years to come.

Furthering Education

Our goal from the beginning is to set our interns up for success, with the goal of hiring the best and brightest of them when the timing is right. By enrolling them in the Front-End Development Workshop, we gave them the chance to grow their knowledge, as well as a chance to show their drive.

Whether it’s a brand-new summer intern or someone who’s been with us for decades, we believe in our team. We invest in our team. This coding workshop is one of many opportunities our team members have to further their education.

In the summer of 2020, we launched Rocket Academy to connect our team members with colleges and universities. Rocket Academy is open to all team members who have worked here for at least 6 months. It gives these team members the opportunity to go back to school for a large discount or for free.

That’s right. Rocket Companies® helps cover the bill on these programs because we know that investing in our team is one of the smartest investments we can make.

From interns to full-time team members, we invest in our people.
