What is “Home. Made.,” what does the process of creating a branded podcast look like and how can you get involved in cool projects like this as part of your career? Keep reading to find out.
“Home. Made.” launches March 29. You can listen to “Home. Made.” on all major podcast players.
What Is “Home. Made.” About?
Inside every home, there’s a story.
That’s the premise of “Home. Made.” We wanted to hear from ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell – stories about fighting for home, finding home in unexpected places, creating home or learning to share it with others.
In this audio series, we’ll hear from urban activists, homesteading mountain men, ghostly roommates and more, while experts deliver compelling insight into the behavioral science behind the fundamental need for shelter and belonging that unites us all.
Each episode dives into one of these stories, exploring the meaning of home and what it can teach us about ourselves and each other. The stories might be heart-wrenching, hilarious, thought provoking or downright unexpected, but each one will take you on a journey through the diversity of home in America.
How We Made “Home. Made.”
Because we’re all about the power of teamwork, the Rocket Mortgage® Podcast team is made up of folks from a variety of different areas within our Marketing team.
The podcast project belongs to the Rocket Mortgage® Publishing House team, whose main job is to create much of the quality content you’ll find on the many blogs and learning centers of the various companies across Rocket Companies®, just like this one.
However, by no means are they the only ones who have had a hand in creating this series. “Home. Made.” is a culmination of many hours of hard, thoughtful work from editors, designers, writers, creative strategists, campaign managers, project managers and many others from several different teams within Marketing.
The Podcast team started with the idea that they wanted to tell stories about home. Not stories about mortgages, or about buying homes, but about that concept: home.
Once the team had a good idea of what they wanted the podcast to look like, the fun part began: critiquing story pitches and scripts, listening to and providing feedback on episodes, and creating the artwork that would be necessary to make this audio project visually appealing.
What Kinds Of Stories Does “Home. Made.” Tell?
In the first episode, Dr. Kwandaa Roberts shares her story with our host, award-winning radio journalist Stephanie Foo.
It all started with a dollhouse.
As a successful OB-GYN in Philadelphia, Kwandaa has brought thousands of babies into the world. Her lifelong dream was to help people, and being a doctor was part of that dream.
But Kwandaa has another lifelong passion: interior design. She’s always loved looking at people’s homes, admiring their decor choices and experiencing the emotions that those choices evoked in her. She’d just never considered that design was something she could pursue as a career.
Then, 16 years into her career in medicine, Kwandaa bought a dollhouse as a gift for her daughter and redecorated it. And it reignited a spark in her.
Kwandaa bought another dollhouse – this time, just for her – and revamped it similar to HGTV’s “Fixer Upper.” When she finished, she posted her creation to social media – and immediately went viral.
Suddenly, Kwandaa had a choice to make: stick with being doctor, or make a big mid-career change and pursue interior design?
To hear how Kwandaa’s story ends, be sure to follow “Home. Made.” and listen in when the podcast launches on March 29.
