All my life I have been living in the moment and seeing where life takes me. Once I got to college, this was still my mindset until senior year came. That’s when it finally hit me – what am I going to do? Where do I see myself working? And the most important question, where do I belong?

On The Hunt

As senior year was slowly coming to an end, I began to do some searching. In February 2020, I attended a Rocket Companies® tour hosted by Wayne State University and I absolutely fell in love with the culture of the company as well as the impact it had on rebuilding Detroit.

After this, I participated in countless college fairs, but each of them ended unsuccessfully. I began to feel hopeless once again. I didn’t feel like I fit into any of the other companies there. After all, I wasn’t just looking for a job – I was looking for a family.

The Start Of My Journey

When I thought I was about to lose all hope, I came across a post on LinkedIn promoting a career fair event hosted by Rocket Companies partnered with Detroit At Work. I knew this would be my chance to put myself out there.

I prepared myself diligently and completed multiple mock interviews. Through this preparation, along with the help I received from my wonderful mentor Mickey Maher, I finally felt like I was ready.

The Detroit At Work event went smoothly. I had five 10-minute conversations, either through chat or video call, with different recruiters in various fields at Rocket Mortgage®. The thing I liked most about these conversations was that everyone was so sweet and easygoing.

Despite it being virtual, I was engaged in real, casual conversations and it felt as though I was able to truly be myself. I found it amazing that Rocket Companies partnered with Detroit At Work as it is a very known organization that helps people connect people with work.

The fact that Rocket Companies stays engaged with the community and finds ways to help people get opportunities is exactly what I want to be a part of. My go-to motto is “I love to see change and be a part of a change.”

This was only the start of my journey. After that day, I was contacted again by the amazing recruiter I met, Mandy. After that, a few steps followed; I had a call with her where she got to know me more, took a typing test, answered a few questions on how I would handle certain situations, completed a security background check, engaged in a call with two other leaders and before I knew it, I was in. I was ecstatic! My dream had finally come true.

Today, I am a Servicing Communication Specialist. I am the voice of Rocket Mortgage and I aid clients with any concerns they ring in for. I will officially hit 6 months with Rocket Mortgage on October 9. I love working with the various types of people I meet and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.

Down the line, I would like to grow and expand even further. With my experience in college being stressful and lonely, I want to be able to help other students and ultimately, the community. I would someday like to be a part of big projects to make Detroit even better.

The Bottom Line: Never Give Up

My advice to everyone out there who feels the same hopelessness that I felt is to never give up. Try, try and try! Attend as many events as you can as Rocket Companies has so many events to offer. Put yourself out there and more importantly, be yourself.

I am truly blessed to be a part of this wonderful community. I finally found the place where I belong and you can too.
