Detroit Month of Design is back! This September, Detroit Month of Design will return for its 11th edition of amazing festivities and mind-blowing interactive art installations. This citywide gathering of creatives, designers, innovators and the incredible community of Detroit will be coming together to celebrate the city’s role as a national and global design capital.
Historically, Detroit has been considered a hub for all things design and the focal point of many creative industries for years. From the city’s design legacy and the commitment to promote cultural and creative industries, Detroit has been moving the needle when it comes to the design space. This year, from September 1 – September 31, the city of Detroit will be able to take part in a wide variety of activities; from guided garden tours of Oudolf Garden Detroit to sashiko denim workshops with Detroit Denim Co.
The Artist: Yazmin Dababneh
Rocket Companies® has the awesome opportunity to assist as the lead sponsor for Detroit Month of Design to help bring this great festival to life. To properly represent the city of Detroit, Rocket Companies has partnered with local College for Creative Studies artist, Yazmin Dababneh.
“I’m so excited to be having my first solo exhibition in the heart of downtown Detroit, and especially during Detroit Month of Design! Huge thanks to Design Core and Rocket Companies for this incredible opportunity!” - Yazmin Dababneh
Yazmin is an independent, Detroit-based artist who focuses on creating sculptural work, as well as immersive and interactive experiences. She says on her website that her work is driven by her fascination with quantum physics and metaphysics and she likes to explore the idea of how we are all connected through the unseen energy that matter holds. Her use of different materials like glass and steel helps show this unseen energy. Yazmin strives to evoke a sense of interconnectedness by exploring consciousness and the perceptions of reality through material manipulation in her art.
Yazmin and Rocket Companies will specifically be partnering to bring a PR interactive art installation to downtown Detroit in our very own First National building, located at 660 Woodward Ave. The art installation will not only feature some of Yazmin’s current and older work, but a host of other things. Yazmin’s work is made from existing and additional lighting to create a colorful and euphoric atmosphere. The public can explore the space at their own pace, giving them an opportunity to interact with the experience through their own lens.
Rocket Companies: Product Design
Among all the amazing things happening within the installation for the month of September, we are excited to share that Andy Vitale, Executive Vice President of Design at Rocket Mortgage®, will be hosting a fireside chat to discuss all things Product Design and Strategy happening with Rocket Companies. Andy will be speaking to all the great things Rocket Companies has going on in the design world and even sharing new job openings within our Product teams. This is a very exciting time for Detroit, the world of design and Rocket Companies.
