Over two decades ago, I was an intern at BEA Systems. Back then, I was both scared and excited. Scared, because there was no plan B, and I had to succeed. I was excited because I was finally solving real problems where no professor had a key with the answers. That experience lit a spark: the realization that technology isn’t just about writing code, it’s about solving human problems.

Today, as an executive at Rocket®, I see that same spark in our interns. When they present their summer projects, I’m reminded of my own journey. Only now, they’re starting their careers in an era I could have never imagined back then – the era of artificial intelligence.

Why AI Matters

Mark Cuban recently said something I couldn’t agree with more: “Understand the fundamentals of computer science but also understand how to apply AI to a business. That’s where the real value lies.”

At Rocket, that’s exactly what we’re doing. AI isn’t a buzzword here. It’s the force transforming how we help people achieve the American Dream through one of life’s biggest milestones: homeownership. Most people know us as Rocket Mortgage®. But mortgage is just one part of a much larger ecosystem from technology, financing, titling, underwriting, closing, servicing, real estate, agent networks, broker partnerships, and more. It’s vast, complex, and ripe for transformation.

Our mission is simple but bold: Help Everyone Home ... and AI is one of our most powerful tools to deliver on that promise.

Where We’re Headed

With recent acquisitions like Redfin and the anticipated closing of our acquisition of Mr. Cooper, we’re expanding our reach across the homeownership journey. Together, these platforms generate double digits in petabytes of data, a treasure trove of insight we can responsibly leverage to better serve our clients.

But what excites me most are the solutions we’re building right now:

• A proprietary origination system, now evolving into agentic workflows that make smarter, faster decisions.
• An agent-powered conversational platform using multiple LLMs, designed to guide clients seamlessly through their journey.
• Putting AI capabilities directly in the hands of brokers and partners through the use of an in-house generated AI tool.
• A reimagined Product Development Life Cycle, cutting development time nearly in half leveraging agentic patterns and solutions.

And this is only the beginning. We’re collaborating with leaders like AWS, Google, Sierra, Twilio and OpenAI to rethink how AI agents, smart contracts, and automation can reshape the housing ecosystem to be more accessible, inclusive, and simplified for everyone.

Our CEO, Varun Krishna, often reminds us: transformation doesn’t happen in isolation. That’s why Rocket is focused on partnership over competition. We’re working with brokers, agents, vendors, and partners so that the ultimate winners are clients and homeowners. At the end of the day, this isn’t just about technology. It’s about people and their pursuit of prosperity. It’s about making the homeownership journey easier, more accessible, and more joyful.
