We love to highlight the work that our team members do every day. Rocket Mortgage® employs the best bankers in the business. Many of our bankers move on to big positions within Rocket Companiesâ.

Tim Kierschke started his career as a Mortgage Banker. He’s now the Regional Vice President of Rocket AutoSM with 35 years of experience in sales. We sat down with him to ask some questions and learn about his journey. Read this interview for some great insight into how a career in sales could be for you.

Q: How long have you been a Mortgage Banker?

I’ve been with Rocket Companies for 10 years in two different stints. I started in mortgage banking and worked up to the director role. But the career wasn’t making me happy, and I had other opportunities, so I left to explore them.

I spent 10 years away, learning and growing, then came back to work at Rocket Auto. The resources here are amazing. The people here will have an impact on you and you likely won’t realize it in the moment.

Part of what you learn is we have the commitment and ability to do our job as effectively as we can. People here are always looking for ways to grow. It’s a mindset. When you leave, you learn that some companies aren’t dedicated to their team members – they’re dedicated to their bottom line. It’s not like that at Rocket Companies.

Q: How would you describe what you do?

I tell people that I coach people in sales and help them improve themselves. We're on the ground floor of changing how people purchase automobiles at Rocket Auto.

A lot of times, people have an image of people sitting in a cube and selling them a car – you're in this moment trying to give the best experience that you can. You have the company’s reputation in your hands and that is a privilege. I help our sales people meet their goals and deliver for every client, every time.

Q: What area did you transfer into mortgage banking from and why did you make the move into mortgage banking?

I was doing mortgage banking for 25 years when I came to Rocket Companies, so I came in as an experienced hire. I’ve found that, ultimately, you can choose to swim against the current, or you can choose to make it your own.

When I initially joined the company, I thought I knew everything, but I mentally realized that they were teaching me how to do something in a different way. You must humble yourself and realize you can always keep learning.

Q: What advice would you give those that are interested in pursuing a sales role?

Build relationships. Relationships are everything and you never know what opportunities are going to come to you. I left the Rocket Companies and after 10 years, I couldn’t be more excited to be back.

How many people dressed up as a sales person for Halloween? No one grows up wanting to be in sales or dreams of it. You learn that you're good at this because it’s about talking to people and then learning sales skills. To succeed, you have to be vulnerable and go to the people you're competing against and get their help.

Q: What is your favorite ISM and why?

DNA and ISMs are a part of you wherever you go. They make us the best company to work for in the country. The DNA of them never left me even when I left for a decade.

I love our ISM, “You’ll see it when you believe it.” I believe in our commitment to what we’re doing with Rocket Companies as a whole, and Rocket Auto specifically.

Q: What is the most important thing people should know about our culture?

It's not about the right now; it's about building the future. It's a bit of a leap of faith – it can work out really well for some and not so well for others. You have to trust yourself and trust those around you.

People here are dedicated to improving themselves. They’re committed to excellence. If you’re looking for your “forever home,” you can make a career here.
