I’m somewhat of an old man when it comes to technology. It was the early days of the web when I cut my teeth and I still remember when HTML 4.0 was the cool new thing. Back then, we were trailblazers, building things that had never been seen before.
Technology was magic; if you could dream it, you could build it … and we did. Nowadays though, it’s just as easy to buy a car online as it is to buy a book. It can sometimes feel as though technology has become so integrated into our lives that it’s lost that magical appeal.
Luckily though, that’s not the case at Rocket AutoSM. Each day that I log on to my computer, I get that same feeling as I did in my college days. We’re building amazing stuff that helps our clients buy cars while using cutting-edge tools and techniques that would have blown my 20-year-old mind.
As we revolutionize the car-buying experience, we use tools like React, Salesforce, Informatica and Amazon Web Services to push the boundaries of what’s possible online. Our technology teams work in an agile environment together with our business partners to get quick feedback and ensure we build the right thing.
What makes us awesome
One of my favorite ISMs is “We’ll Figure It Out,” and this really sums up how we work at Rocket Auto technology. There’s no challenge that’s too difficult, no project too large for us to deliver. We really mean it when we say we want to build the biggest online car retailer in the country!
To do that, our technology team stays curious: it’s not enough for us to just build a website. We want to know how our clients use the site, how our agents interact with our apps, how the car buying process works and how we can use technology to smooth out the gaps.
If you’re going to be part of this amazing tech team at Rocket Auto (or any tech team at the Rocket Companies®), you must be curious and passionate about the problems we solve.
In other words: We don’t just build technology. We solve problems.
Leveling up
Of course, being a technologist – whether an engineer, tester or system administrator – means keeping up with the state of the industry. Although the pandemic put a pause on many in-person events, we are incredibly fortunate to have a wealth of training and development opportunities across the whole of Rocket Companies.
I’ve taken part in a few trainings, covering things like Kubernetes, CircleCI and more, and the knowledge I’ve gained has helped me grow as an engineer. Not only that, but I’ve been able to make real connections with the folks who attend those trainings, as well as the team members who provide the instruction.
That’s right, we have folks who are in the trenches doing the training – what better way to learn?
A real community
Speaking of the people, since joining Rocket Companies 5 years ago, I’ve collaborated with the most intelligent people with whom I’ve ever worked. The best part has been the willingness to share knowledge; there are no egos at Rocket Companies.
Whether you attend formal training or user groups, or participate in tech-related chats online, the opportunities to be a member of the wider technology community are endless. It doesn’t stop at the boundaries of Rocket Auto, either – you have the whole of Rocket Companies at your disposal.
So, are you ready to become a part of this incredible group of folks? We’d love to talk to you! The culture is fantastic, the tech stack is cutting-edge, the problems are challenging … and we have slushies. What more could you ask for?
