What The Rocket Mortgage Classic Means To Detroit
3-Minute ReadPUBLISHED: July 20, 2022
The Rocket Mortgage Classic, at the historic Detroit Golf Club, debuted in 2019 and is a one-of-a-kind event that is Detroit’s first and only PGA TOUR® tournament. Throughout the years, this incredible competition has brought some of the PGA TOUR’s biggest stars to our city.
Past winners include Nate Lashley and Cam Davis. Past participants have included Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Bubba Watson and rising star Will Zalatoris. And some exciting plays like Troy Merritt’s hole-in-one on the par-3 11th hole in last year’s tournament. Or Cam Davis’ incredible rally in a five-hole playoff to claim the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic trophy.
Changing The Course
The tournament shines a positive spotlight on the vibrant community that is the heart and soul of Detroit. Biancca Davenport, Marketing Campaign Manager for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, is one of our many team members that helps create added awareness to this great event.
“As the Marketing Campaign Manager responsible for bringing awareness to the Rocket Mortgage Classic, I think this event is a great opportunity for local Detroiters to experience something new in their community. Whether you’re a golf fan or not, this event has something for everyone. Plus, while we’re proud of the recognition and honored to help bring professional golf to Detroit, we’re even prouder of our Changing The Course initiative that’s helping bridge the digital divide and the progress it’s made over the years.”
Support from our fans and partners has helped this event raise more than $5.25 million for local nonprofit organizations like the Connect 313 Fund, and it has raised over $3 million and improved digital access across the city by 70% through our Changing The Course initiative.
AREA 313
One way we’re giving back to the Detroit community is through our AREA 313 Challenge. It’s the most charitable three holes on the PGA TOUR®. Over the years, the epicenter of excitement and enthusiasm has been on holes 14, 15 and 16. That’s because donations are made by Rocket Mortgage® when players make an eagle, ace or birdie on these three holes.
It’s just one of the many ways we’re showing our commitment to the Detroit community by ensuring residents are connected with internet, technology and digital literacy training.
Detroit Community Days
In addition to the AREA 313 Challenge, and in celebration of everything that makes Detroit a great place to live, work and play, the tournament is proud to offer all residents of the 313 a chance to enjoy complimentary access to events with Detroit Community Days.
One of the goals of this event is to make it accessible to all Detroiters. Detroit Community Days helps do that and opens the doors to the special events happening on Tuesday and Wednesday during tournament week.
Corporate Sponsors
None of this would be possible without the diverse network of sponsors and vendor partners that make this event one of the highlights of the summer in Detroit.
Rory Spence, Sponsorship Manager at Rocket Central, has been working on the Rocket Mortgage Classic since its inception in 2019.
“The event being in Detroit generates value not just for our brand but also for our community. We place a heavy importance on working with Michigan and Detroit-based minority and women-owned vendors as well as partnering up with some of the biggest brands in the city – all working together to make this event a success.”
From DTE Energy, Cadillac and Crispelli’s Bakery and Pizzeria to Henry Ford Heath, Shinola and Greyson, the roster of local and national sponsors makes this tournament a remarkable experience for all Detroiters.
