My Experience As An Amrock Appraiser

Like many appraisers my journey began with the word “no.”. I tried for months to find a supervisor to train me with no success. Some appraisers said no because they did not want to “train their competition.” Others said no because they were too busy to take on a trainee. Amrock said, “Yes!”. Plus, they offered mentorship, paid training and licensing and benefits too.

Here’s what my experience with Amrock has been like.

A Day In the Life

As a trainee, I would begin and end my days with my mentor. We would meet in the mornings for property inspections. He taught me how to measure homes and identify significant factors both inside and outside the property.

After inspections, I would write reports at home. My mentor, team leader and other Amrock appraisers were always a phone call away when I had questions. At the end of the day, my mentor would review my reports and offer advice over the phone.

As my skills improved, I completed more work independently. I felt super proud when I was able to complete property inspections on my own.

Company Culture: Teamwork And Learning

I work remotely, but I feel more connected to my team members than I have with any other company. There are literally dozens of experienced appraisers across the nation who are ready and willing to help and offer advice. We work together to solve problems.

There are many great places to connect with our network of appraisers and ask questions and get answers. The monthly newsletter which is written by the review team, provides tips to improve report quality. The team’s page is also a great source for research.

Who Is Amrock?

Amrock is the appraisal and title arm of Rocket Companies®. As a part of Rocket Companies, we are “Obsessed with Finding a Better Way.” Amrock trainees can expect to learn from the nation’s best appraisers while using and developing cutting-edge technology.

You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with your supervising appraiser and team leader, consult review appraisers and conference with other trainees as you work towards your state license. Trainee conference calls, led by experienced appraisers and attended by trainees across the nation, are a great opportunity to learn from others. They’ve walked in your shoes and are traveling with you along the road to becoming an appraiser.

Your supervising appraiser will be your mentor and may become a life-long friend. They’ll teach you everything from property inspection and report writing to scheduling and time-saving skills.

You’ll also have access to your team leader and review appraisers who will support you along your journey. Team leaders are your direct connection to Amrock. They can help you with everything from appraisal challenges and vacation requests to leadership development. Review appraisers have a wealth of knowledge. They protect you by reviewing your reports and are a great resource for tough questions.

Some other highlighted benefits include:

  • Health Insurance for you and your family.
  • Company paid appraisal software and MLS access, classes and licensing fees.
  • 401(k) with company match.

Advice For Potential Trainees

  • Ask Questions! Find appraisers and ask questions about their experience. You can find Amrock trainees and senior appraisers on LinkedIn. Teamwork is part of our culture; we are always happy to help.
  • Be Proactive! Complete your trainee and pre-licensing classes as soon as you can. Even as a trainee, the opportunity to work and earn great pay can be a distraction from completing the classes required to become an appraiser. Make time to complete classes and study for the exam.
